The Little Stranger

The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters is set in a dusty, post-war, rural Warwickshire summer. A doctor is called to a patient at lonely Hundreds Hall. Home to the Ayres family for over two centuries, the Georgian house, once grand and handsome, is now in decline, crumbling and choking with weeds. Struggling to keep pace with a changing society are its inhabitants – mother, son and daughter. The doctor, Dr Faraday, has little knowledge of how closely his life will become entwined with Hundreds Hall, whilst the question arises as to whether or not the Ayres are haunted by something more than just a dying way of life.
