The Caliph`s House

Writer and film maker Tahir Shah moved his family away from draining British life to start again in Casablanca – a place of colour, history and romance. This long-abandoned house on the edge of the shanty town had once been the home of the city’™s Caliph, or governor, but before Shah moved in it was the home to many jinns. These mischievous spirits decided to hang around as Shah battled the larger-than-life characters (and gangster neighbour) in his quest to transform the house into the perfect home. Not only a story about home-ownership abroad and the battles and anxieties of developing it but also a narrative of the author’™s own self-discovery, and his falling in love with Morocco’™s magical, multi-faceted contradictions.
