The Americas NGS Classic Wall Map ENCAPSULATED

Attractive 59x92cm wallmap of the American continents, encapsulated version, showing the New World in its entirety, from the North Pole to Cape Horn. The familiar NGS cartography is here: different colours distinguish political boundaries and hill-shading against a white background shows the general relief. Selected peak heights are marked, and generalized bathymetric tinting is applied to the sea areas, with depths marked for shallow banks. Major roads and railways are marked, principal rivers, lakes and highland ranges are named, and glaciers, swamps, salt lakes and deserts are indicated. In Canada and the USA, state boundaries are marked; elsewhere, international boundaries only.The projection used for this extensive view is the Bipolar Oblique Conic Conformal, with latitude and longitude lines drawn at 10ยฐ intervals. There is also a small inset map showing the general physical geography of the same region, at 1:56,600,000.* This title is also available on paper without the encapsulation.LAMINATED and ENCAPSULATED WALL MAPS:- LAMINATED wall maps have a thin layer of plastic usually applied to the printed side only. They can be written on with suitable marker pens without any damage to the map but, unless laminated on both sides, they are not damp-proof.- ENCAPSULATED wall maps are sealed between two sheets of plastic. They are more rigid and heavier than laminated maps of the same size. They are damp-proof and do not crinkle in humid conditions. Encapsulation gives the map a shiny surface, similar to being displayed behind glass.- PLEASE NOTE: many publishers and retailers often use these two terms interchangeably.
