Scotland`s Mountain Ridges

Scotland’™s Mountain Ridges is Dan Bailey’™s large-format Cicerone guide to some of the most dramatic and memorable heights and peaks of Scotland’™s mountains. The guide covers a variety of Scotland’™s peaks and ridges: a rich mix of summer scrambles, technical rock and challenging winter climbs. It includes both the popular classics and some more obscure ridges, aiming to both document and celebrate each of them. The landscapes range from the remote isolation of the Cairngorms to the seaside splendour of the Cuillin and the great trench of Glencoe to the surreal exhibitionism of the far north. The guide is structured in five main sections – Arran and the Southern Highlands, Lochaber, The Cairngorms, The North and West Highlands and Skye and Rum – encompassing a total of 48 routes. Each walk has an Information Box providing details of difficulty grading, distance, ascent, time, relevant maps, accommodation, sleeping out, public transport and seasonal notes. A comprehensive introduction gives practical guidance on getting there, accommodation, grades and difficulty, winter grades, gear and skills, avalanches and land ownership and management. Detailed route descriptions are accompanied by Ordnance Survey extracts mapping the route in addition to a selection of full-page colour photographs illustrating some of the highlights of Scotland’™s mountain ridges.
