Italy’s Sibillini National Park
Italy’s Sibillini National Park is Gillian Price’s Cicerone guide to some of the finest walking opportunities near Monti Sibillini in the north-east of the country. The guide describes everything from short strolls to an eight-day trek that encircles the massif and its beautiful national park. This is the first English language guide to the area. The Sibillini are easily reached from Rome and the airports on the Adriatic coast and belong to the Apennine chain that straddles the Marches and Umbria. The guide is organised into two main sections that cover the eight-day trek, whilst it also provides suggestions for twenty-one shorter walks in the mountains. Each stage of the trek has an information box detailing the total time and distance as well as the ascent and descent in addition to a general overview of the day’s trekking. The shorter walks have a similar format though they also include details on relative difficulty and the starting and finishing points. A detailed introduction provides useful information on when to go, exploring the Sibillini, accommodation, food and drink and the flora and fauna of the area. Detailed route descriptions are accompanied by colour sketch diagrams mapping the route in addition to colour photographs illustrating some of the highlights of the region.
