Italian Dolomites – Via Ferratas Volume 2 – Southern Dolomites, Brenta and Lake Garda
Via Ferratas of the Italian Dolomites- Volume 2 is John Smith and Graham Fletcher’s Cicerone guide to exploring the wonders of these Italian mountains. Via ferratas, or protected routes comprising fixed cables, ladders and bridges, aid ascents to places usually reserved for expert rock climbers, thus opening up previously unseen routes to many more walkers. Via Ferrata climbing in the Dolomites is an exhilarating way to enjoy the magnificence of the unique mountain environments of the northern Dolomites. Uniquely, the authors have organized routes according to strategic valley bases instead of grouping routes by mountain ranges, also offering guidance as to the best bases for attacking the routes. This volume covers the southern Dolomites, Brenta and Lake Garda. Featured mountain ranges include the Civetta, Schiara and Pala, the Brenta group and there are also routes in the Trento region described. Many of the routes in the Lake Garda area, the Adige valley and the ‘Piccole Dolomites’ (accessible from Vicenza and Verona) are described in English for the first time in this guide. Information boxes at the start of each section provide guidance on departure points, difficulty gradings, approximate timings and altitude. Detailed route descriptions are accompanied by diagrams mapping the route as well as colour photographs illustrating the highlights of the area.
