Colne Valley and Braintree 1887
Colne Valley and Braintree in 1887 in a series of reproductions of Ordnance Survey’s famous “Inch to the Mile” maps published in the Alan Godfrey Editions to provide a historical record of England and Wales in the second half of 19th and early 20th century.The map covers the area of Essex from Wethersfield eastward to Lexden, and from Castle Hedingham southward to Kelvedon. Other locations on the map include: in ESSEX Alphamstone, Birch, Black Notley, Bocking Churchstreet, Bradwell, Braintree, Chapel, Coggeshall, Colne Engaine, Copford, Earls Colne, Easthorpe, Feering, Fordham, Gosfield, Great Horkesley, Great Tey, Halstead, Lamarsh, Layer de la Haye, Little Coggeshall, Little Horkesley, Little Tey, Marks Tey, Messing, Mount Bures, Panfield, Pattiswick, Pebmarsh, Rayne, Shalford, Sible Hedingham, Stanway, Stisted, Twinstead, Wakes Colne, West Bergholt, White Colne, Wickham St Pauls and Wormingford; plus in SUFFOLK Bures St Mary, Nayland and Wissington. On the reverse is a detailed map of Marks Tey with a directory.About the Alan Godfrey Editions of the OS Inch to the Mile Maps: the maps provide an invaluable overview of a wider area, typically 18 x 12 miles (29 x 19 kms approx.), and offer historical mapping for small towns and villages not covered by the more detailed series for which the Godfrey Editions are better known.
