Cape York Atlas and Guide from Hema in an A4 spiral-bound format, covering the northernmost part of Queensland including Cairns and the coast of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area. Mapping of the whole region is combined with description of interesting sights, recommendations for 15 best 4WD trips, and general tourist advice.The opening two chapters provide information on planning the trip, advice on recreational activities, entry permits to national parks, etc. The following chapters which describe different parts of the region include popular routes, e.g. Cairns to Cooktown by either the coastal or the inland route. The descriptions are illustrated with numerous colour photos and map extracts. Cape York’™s 15 top 4WD trips are graded according to the necessary vehicle specifications and presented with map extracts, lists of facilities available along the route, descriptions and photos. The road atlas covers the whole region north of the Savannah Way at 1:1,000,000, with more detailed mapping for the very north of the peninsula. Road network distinguishes between sealed and unsealed roads and indicates which roads and tracks have been specially plotted by the publishers during their field research. Driving distances are shown on main roads and selected tracks; where useful the maps also show GPS waypoints. An extensive range of symbols indicate availability of different facilities (accommodation, food, fuel, car repairs, etc), some annotated with opening times. Topography is presented by relief shading with colouring and/or graphics for national parks and other protected areas, swamps, salt lakes and saline coastal flats, etc. In the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park numerous reef are named. All pages have a latitude and longitude grid.
