Bedford & District 1895 – 203

Bedford and District 1895 in a series of reproductions of Ordnance Survey’™s famous “Inch to the Mile” maps published in the Alan Godfrey Editions to provide a historical record of England and Wales in the second half of 19th and early 20th century.Two versions have been published for this area. Coverage stretches from Stoke Goldington and Bradwell eastward to Cardington, and from Harrold southward to Ampthill Park; in the south-western corner is the area now covered by much of Milton Keynes. Other locations on the map include: in BEDFORDSHIRE Biddenham, Bromham, Carlton, Chellington, Clapham, Cranfield, Goldington, Hardmead, Haynes, Kempston, Lidlington, Millbrook, Milton Ernest, Oakley, Pavenham, Ravensden, Salford, Stagsden, Stevington, Turvey, Willshamstead, Wilden and Wootton; in BUCKINGHAMSHIRE Broughton, Chicheley, Clifton Reynes, Cold Brayfield, Emberton, Filgrave, Gayhurst, Great Linford, Great Woolstone, Haversham, Lathbury, Lavendon, Little Linford, Little Woolstone, Moulsoe, New Bradwell, Newport Pagnell, Newton Blossomville, North Crawley, Olney, Ravenstone, Sherington, Stantonbury, Tyringham, Warrington, Weston Underwood and Willen; plus in NORTHAMPTONSHIRE Yardley Hastings. On the reverse of the coloured edition (203a) is a detailed map of Milton Keynes village in 1898; map No. 203b has an extract showing Turvey and Cold Brayfield in detail.About the Alan Godfrey Editions of the OS Inch to the Mile Maps: the maps provide an invaluable overview of a wider area, typically 18 x 12 miles (29 x 19 kms approx.), and offer historical mapping for small towns and villages not covered by the more detailed series for which the Godfrey Editions are better known.
