Adventuresses, Rediscovering Daring Voyages into the Unknown

Jacki Hill-Murphy tells the gripping stories of three early female explorers who travelled to remote regions of the world in the 18th and 19th Centuries. These stories have become lost over time and in order to fully explore their experiences, Jacki has retraced their journeys herself, keeping as close to their original route and conditions as possible. The first part of the book follows Isabella Godin`s journey, who was the first known woman to travel the length of the Amazon river in 1769. The second part covers her climb up Mount Cameroon to retrace Mary Kingsley`s journey in 1885, and the final part retraces the journey of Isabella Bird over the Digar pass in the Indian Himalayas in 1890. Jacki writes of her own dilemmas and humorous encounters along the way which makes it an inspiring and exciting read.
