A Week at the Airport – A Heathrow Diary
Alain de Botton’s ‘A Week at the Airport’ is the result of an invitation made to him in the summer of 2009, by the owners of London’s Heathrow, to be their first ever writer-in-residence. Based on the conversations he had during his residence he has produced this meditation on the nature of travel, work, relationships and our daily lives. The philosopher was given unprecedented, unrestricted access to the airport; he met travellers from all over the world, and spoke with a vast array of people from baggage handlers to senior executives, from airline pilots to the airport chaplain.
