Forest of Bowland and Pendle Walking

Experienced walker Terry Marsh’™s Cicerone guide to Walking in the Forest of Bowland and Pendle explores some of the walking possibilities in two of Lancashire’™s Areas of Outstanding Beauty. The Forest of Bowland stretches over an area of 310 square miles and combined with the beautiful countryside of Pendle provide fertile and varied walking country. Both of the areas included in the guide offer wildly differing terrain, from the lush farmlands of the Ribble valley to the more rugged pastures of the Forest of Bowland and the huge boggy uplifts of the main Bowland massif. The guide is divided into six main sections – the Lune Valley, Northwest and Western Moors, the Central Moors, Hodder Valley, the Ribble Valley and the countryside of Pendle – totalling 40 circular walks in all. Each walk has an information box detailing the total distance, walking time, relevant map, any height gain and the type of terrain to be expected. An introduction provides details on the county of Lancashire and notes and advice for walkers. Detailed route descriptions are accompanied by Ordnance Survey extracts mapping the route in addition to colour photographs illustrating some of the main highlights of this varied landscape.
