Devon North: Taw and Torridge Valleys in 1907 in a series of reproductions of Ordnance Survey’™s famous “Inch to the Mile” maps published in the Alan Godfrey Editions to provide a historical record of England and Wales in the second half of 19th and early 20th century.The map covers an area of north Devon stretching from Great Torrington eastwards to East Worlington, and from George Nympton southwards to Winkleigh and Broadwood Kelly. Other locations include Ashreigney, Atherington, Beaford, Bishop`s Nympton, Brushford, Burrington, Chawleigh, Cheldon, Chittlehamholt, Chulmleigh, Coldridge, Dolton, Dowland, Eggesford, High Bickington, Hollocombe, Huish, Huntshaw, Iddesleigh, Kings Nympton, Lapford, Mariansleigh, Meeth, Merton, Meshaw, Morchard Bishop, Nymet Rowland, Petrockstow, Roborough, Romansleigh, St Giles in the Wood, Wembworthy and Yarnscombe. On the reverse is an extract from Devon Sheet 42.04 showing in detail the town centre of Chulmleigh with a directory.About the Alan Godfrey Editions of the OS Inch to the Mile Maps: the maps provide an invaluable overview of a wider area, typically 18 x 12 miles (29 x 19 kms approx.), and offer historical mapping for small towns and villages not covered by the more detailed series for which the Godfrey Editions are better known.
