Windows On The World, Fifty Writers, Fifty Views
Featuring an introduction from Lorin Stein, editor of the Paris Review, Windows on the World, Fifty Writers, Fifty Views is a literary gift book filled with line drawings and extracts from popular authors from around the globe. Architect and artist Matteo Pericoli (his drawings have featured in a regular series in the New York Times), presents us with the views from the windows of the homes of fifty writers from around the globe; from Orhar Pamuk in Istanbul, Daniel Kehlmann in Berlin, Chimamanda Ngoz Adichie in Lagos to Nadine Gordimer in Johannesburg and Xi Chuan in Beijing. Each short story, inspired by the views from the windows of their houses, adds colours and details to the accompanying pen ‘“and-ink drawing. This combination creates a remarkable book that traces the creative thoughts of these authors and their sense of space, thus giving us access to their lives. Windows on the World, Fifty Writers, Fifty Views, plays on perspectives and on outward and inward views; it is a literary book demonstrating how creativity and a sense of place interact.
