Great Britain: Michelin 400K Road Maps

Great Britain on four indexed touring maps at 1:400,000 from Michelin, particularly good for indentifying scenic routes, with enlargements for main urban conurbations, an index next to the map, locations cross-referenced to the Michelinโ€™s Red and Green guides, etc. Michelinโ€™s regional coverage of Great Britain offers a balance of combining some topographic detail with informative presentation of the road network, although given the scale at 1:400,000 fewer small local roads are shown than in other similar series. Topography is indicated by relief shading with names of main mountain ranges, valleys, peaks, etc, plus spot heights and colouring of forests and other wooded areas. Boundaries of national parks are marked. Special features provided in the presentation of road network include highlighting of scenic roads, more detailed gradient markings than found on most similar maps, height restrictions for bridges, load limits, and driving distances on main roads given in both miles and kilometres. The series also provides more driving distances on minor A and selected B roads than on many similar road maps. Railway lines and ferry routes are included.Places of interest indicated by symbols are less numerous or prominently marked than on other map series, but the maps do indicate locations with street plans in Michelinโ€™s annual Red Guide to Hotels and Restaurants, as well as principal sights in their Green Guide to Britain. The maps have latitude and longitude lines at intervals of 20โ€™. The index is next to the map and also provided are enlargements for the main urban conurbations, plus a distance/driving times table. PLEASE NOTE: the mapping used in this series can also be found in Michelinโ€™s Regional Tourist maps at the same scale, each covering a smaller area but providing extensive additional tourist information with several recommendations for restaurants, lists of main sights, etc.
