France: FFRP Topo-guides with Day Walks
FFRP topo-guides, an extensive series of light, A5-size, high quality, paperback *French language* map/guides with colour extracts from the French topographic survey at 1:25,000 or 1:50,000, or street maps if appropriate, overprinted with local hiking routes. Each guide offers a selection of day walks of different length and difficulty of terrain, all clearly graded. Several titles also include a section of a long-distance GR route or a shorter GRP (GR de Pays) route or circuit.The descriptions provide information on various places of interest along the routes and directions for special points marked on the accompanying maps. All the *text is in French*, but there is also a fair amount of information conveyed by symbols: waymarking, parking facilities, villages with local shops, cafes and restaurants, etc. The guides have numerous photos and drawings of local flora and fauna, and are published by the Fรฉdรฉration Franรงaise de la Randonnรฉe in association with local authorities, ramblersโ€ clubs, etc. *The guides with day walks are indicated on the accompanying grid by yellow, blue or green boxes, and fall into eight categories:**D* – an administrative department indicated by its number, e.g. D024 = Dordogne, D030 = Gard*F* – family walks, suitable for all ages from grandparents to young children*P* – a smaller, local hiking area – the first two digits indicate the administrative department, e.g. P482 = department 48 Lozรจre*PN* – a regional park*RE* – a whole administrative region, e.g. RE02 = Midi-Pyrรฉnรฉes*SF* – forest walks*ST* – thermal spa resorts*VI* – city walks
