Covent Garden – Its Romance and History

`Covent Garden` is a historical and topographical account of one of the most interesting spots in the metropolis. Reginald Jacobs charts the history of the area, world-famous as the location of the Royal Opera House and Covent Garden Market, from its unassuming beginnings as the `convent garden,` a burial-ground belonging to Westminster Abbey prior to Henry VIII`s Dissolution of the Monasteries, to the early twentieth century. Along the way, he records all manner of interesting facts about Covent Garden, covering such well-known places as St Paul`s church, Bow Street, Covent Garden Theatre (now the Opera House), Drury Lane, the Garrick Club and the Market.
