Auvergne Walking Guide

An introduction presents the history, volcanoes, plants and wildlife of this area as well as advising on when to go, getting there and around, where to stay, equipment and maps, and tips on navigation and staying safe in the outdoors.It then organises the 42 walks exploring the ancient landscape of volcanic peaks and lava domes in five different areas, the Cantal, the Chaรฎne des Puys (Monts Dรดmes), Monts Dore, the Haute-Loire: Livradois Forez and Velay, and the Montagne Bourbonnaise, offering a mix of easy to challenging walks. For each trail a sketch map and detailed route descriptions are provided along with information about the distance, ascent, difficulty grading, approximate timing of the walk, and the relevant IGN map; details of parking and public transport links and useful contacts are also included.
